As reported by Doug Adams in his epochal Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything, as reported by supercomputer Deep Thought. It took Deep Thought 7.5 million years to arrive at this answer. Unfortunately, so much happened in between that nobody remembers what the question was.
The team behind this website is working diligently on recovering the original question. That way, the hermeneutic circle can be closed and a full understanding be reached. From a purely logical point of view, the process is simple: Just as a question allows you to find the answer, so does an answer allow you to find the question. As always, however, the devil is in the details.
Notwithstanding ample speculation in the literature, there remains galactic disagreement among even the greatest of minds as to why Deep Thought came to the number 42. Much hard work is most certainly still to be done.
